Pavilions: Nested Worlds

Pavilions: Nested Worlds is a multimedia augmented reality (AR) experience. Designed by Van McElwee with an accompanying soundscape created by Rich O’Donnel, Pavilions transports users into another world. Visitors can utilize smart phones and tablets to peer into the alternate world of Pavilions. Geometric structures appear before you which you can walk through and experience at your own pace.

Rampant was commissioned to build a cross-platform AR app to facilitate the Pavilions experience. The virtual world of Pavilions was custom tailored to a specific venue, which required on-site development.

AR technology has been widely used on a small scale, but presenting large scale AR objects in an indoor low light setting created some unique challenges. Rampant worked together with Hearding Cats to create innovative software and hardware solutions to these challenges.
